We are frequently approached by individuals who have a passion to help Kairos House and will ask us about fundraising on behalf of the ministry. We almost NEVER turn down such enthusiasm and our response was no different when we were recently approached by Dennis College who had the idea to run a marathon for Kairos House! Read some of Dennis’ thoughts below:
So the whole idea of running a marathon arose many weeks ago and my initial thought was no, cannot be done, it is too far and I am too old. However, through days of prayer and thought, God has softened my human way of thinking and has grown this idea into something that I believe is his grand plan. I very much enjoyed [my] trip to Guatemala several years ago, and still feel a personal connection to Guatemala and [the] ministry there. One day, I would like to return, but until then, it is my desire to support Kairos in any way that I can, particularly raising money for the New Kairos House . . . I am hoping to convince people that this house is needed now, as it was really needed 3 years ago. The marathon was a challenge, which if you know me, I love a good challenge, and have also been known to be a bit competitive from time to time. I also know that completing a marathon is no easy task, particularly at my age. Heck if it were easy, everyone would be running marathons. God opened my mind to the idea of having friends, family, and acquaintances help support me in this endeavor, while also keeping me focused on the goal or raising money rather than just running. I intend to give people the opportunity to donate however they would like. They can make a flat donation, they can pledge so much per mile, and there could be incentives for reaching a certain time at the finish. . . I am not sure how big this can be, but I am going into this thinking big, not little. . . . All I am looking to share with people is that Kairos ministry is a ministry that I have a personal connection with. I have seen first hand how the Kairos House operates, I know the people running the ministry, as well as the need for expansion and I intend to encourage people that this is a real good use of their funds. . .
I can run, I know how to do that. Hopefully God will allow others to help get the word out about this in His own way. . . Dennis
